Welcome to the Kidron Community Historical Society!
Collecting and preserving the heritage of the founding Kidron-Sonnenberg settlers is at the heart of what we do at the Kidron Community Historical Society. With a community proud of its heritage that offers a commitment of both time and money, the Society has ensured visitors can almost walk in the footsteps of the early Sonnenberg settlers.
The experience is twofold. First, the original historical museum is located in downtown Kidron. It hosts a large genealogical database and research library as well as many historical items collected from the community. Books and other items may also be purchased. Secondly, the Sonnenberg Village, located just north of the square, continues to grow with preserved historical buildings relocated from nearby original homesteads. In fact, the Welcome Center served at one time as the Sonnenberg Mennonite Church. This facility has been restored and is made available for weddings, reunions, graduations, dinners, and other events.
You don’t need to have Swiss ancestry to enjoy a visit to either location. You simply need an appreciation of history, heritage, and a long gone American era.
